GameChanger Scoring/Stats Clarifications
Hello Royals Fans! I hope you have enjoyed following along the action with GameChanger. This note is for those of you who care about the scoring and stats - you don't have to read it if you are not interested in the details.
First thing - in the past people have thought I wrote those cute summaries after each game and were really impressed. Alas, they are auto-magically generated
by the software. But we are not tracking which Royal is playing in which position each inning, so it will often name the wrong kid who fielded a ball so you can just ignore that.
We are generally not tracking errors, which gives our boys credit for hits even on things like overthrows and dropped pop flys. Normal baseball scoring would also not give a batter credit for a hit if another runner was put out due to the force play at their base. But we are ignoring that and giving the batter credit for the hit and getting on base, even if their hit resulted in another runner getting out.
You may also notice sometimes that a batter gets multiple bases but gets scored for a single or fewer bases than they ran for. This happens when they are getting extra bases on throwing errors, the most common being they wind up on 2nd after an overthrow at 1st - this is a single. There are other weird cases where this might happen, like if we hit the 5 run limit on a play. If we have 3 runs and a boy hits a grand slam, I can only score it as a double, because if I put it in as a home run we would get 7 runs that inning. The app won't work right unless we score the play as ended at the double with two runners scoring.
Last thing - I missed the Armadillos game and noticed some irregularities afterwards. I have manually corrected some of the hits boys weren't getting credit for (if you actually read the recap or the plays themselves they will be wrong). If you care and notice something is wrong, let me know I can fix it.
