Nebraska Police Officer Honored Posthumously as “2023 GameChanger of the Year”

Officer Abbott, hailing from Glenwood, Iowa, and a police officer for the Bellevue, Nebraska, Police Department, is celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the community through selfless service and dedication. He served on the Glenwood Baseball Softball Club’s board for four years and ran their fundraising and uniform efforts, raising over $30,000 to improve club facilities. He worked around the clock to transform the funds into a new softball field. He also constructed new dugouts, coordinated the build-out of custom benches, and helped develop another field specifically for the Tee Ball through 9U divisions.

Officer Abbott worked tirelessly to ensure that every Glenwood child, regardless of financial means or abilities, had the opportunity to play baseball or softball. He collaborated with the City of Glenwood to open a brand new concession and restroom facility in 2023, addressing the need for amenities at several fields within the ballpark. His efforts even led to including a playground for players’ siblings!

Officer Abbott’s legacy goes beyond the tangible improvements he brought to Glenwood; he was a true hero who saved lives and faced personal injury in the line of duty. Despite the grief felt by his family, friends, and the community, Officer Abbott’s impact will forever be remembered and cherished.
